Represented by Banco do Brasil, Tanac will be presented as one of the Brazilian agribusiness companies that most contributes to the low carbon economy

Tanac’s initiatives involving the low-carbon economy will be presented at COP27 – The United Nations Conference on Climate Change, which will gather more than 190 countries between November 6 and 18 in Egypt. The company, based in Montenegro and Rio Grande, will have its case transmitted at the event, invited by Banco do Brasil, which will be represented by President Fausto de Andrade Ribeiro, along with The Minister of the Environment Joaquim Leite. With the theme “Green Businesses“.

Founded in 1948, Tanac is considered the largest producer of Black Wattle trees in the world, with more than 55 million trees planted and activities involving thousands of families across Rio Grande do Sul. The company is a world leader in the production of plant extracts and Black Wattle woodchips and pellets of and its products – present in various industrial processes, as well as applications in footwear, automobiles, food, pulp & paper and renewable energy – are sold in more than 60 countries in all continents. The company is considered one of the thousand largest companies in Brazil, according to Valor Econômico and Exame Magazine.

NEGATIVE CARBON

Tanac removes seven times more CO2 from the atmosphere than it emits in the entire operation. Recently, the company underwent verification by Bureau Veritas Certification. Using the specifications of NBR ISO 14064-1 and the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, it can be concluded that for every 1 tCO2e emitted, the company sequestered 7 tCO2e in its forests.  The result is mainly due to the increase in the planting of Black Wattle in its Forestry Units and forestry promotion program – since the trees contribute to air purification -, in addition to several measures to reduce CO2 emissions in the factories.
