After going through external audit, Tanac receives USDA Organic seal by IBD, recognized internationally
Tanac’s respectful practices with the environment have just been recognized with one more international certification. Now, the company’s Black Wattle forest in the city of Encruzilhada do Sul (RS) has an organic seal by the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) standard, recognized by the North-American market.
The organic certification, signed by IBD – Latin America’s largest organic certifier and the only Brazilian certifier of organic products with a globally accepted certificate – verifies that Tanac forest uses inputs and practices in accordance with the organic regulations of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and allows the sale, labeling and representation of products as organic.
The certification demands a series of precautions, such as the detoxification of the soil for one to three years for areas in transition from chemical agriculture to organic agriculture, the use of only substances allowed according to U.S. federal regulations during management, limiting the period to 3 years before harvesting; the obedience to ecological aspects (maintenance of Permanent Preservation Areas, for example, with the recomposition of riparian forests) and the preservation of native species and sources; the respect for indigenous reserves and for social norms based on international labor agreements.
The organic certification is an important tool in the development process of the ecological and social conscience. The recognition reinforces Tanac’s position in the global market as a company committed to sustainability.
Throughout 2022, the company has passed through several certifications that prove this commitment, not only in its own activities, but also in the entire chain involved – contributing effectively in the construction of a more sustainable society. Among them, that of being a carbon negative company, by sequestering seven times more CO2 from the atmosphere than it emits in the entire operation. It was also presented at COP27 as one of the Brazilian agribusiness companies that contributes the most to the low carbon economy.
Recently, Tanac published its ESG Agenda, with objectives in the areas of Environmental Responsibility, Social Responsibility and Management Responsibility.
